A Slatington woman has been selected to round out the Northern Lehigh School Board.
Joyce Thompson was the sole candidate to fill a vacant two-year term on the board.
Thompson, who works as a part-time adjunct professor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, explained why she sought the seat.
“I just wanted to see more interaction between LCCC and Northern Lehigh,” Thompson said. “And there’s a lot that can be done.”
Thompson, who also serves on the Slatington Public Library’s board of trustees, said she believes it’s important for the schools and the library to continue their interaction.
Of her appointment to the school board, Thompson said she was very thankful.
“I like to be beneficial and helpful on the board,” she said. “I want to make sure that the schools get involved, and the students.”
The position opened when newcomer Timothy Weaber, who won both a four-year and two-year term, declined the two-year term.
