State police at the Hazleton barracks said an arrest warrant has been issued against a man who is alleged to have physically assaulted and shot a woman on Saturday afternoon in Banks Township, Carbon County.

Edwin Junior Vazquez, 32, is wanted on attempted murder charges following the incident at 4:22 p.m. Police cautioned the public, if they come in contact with Vazquez, to not approach him, but to contact authorities immediately through 9-1-1.

Police said they responded to a report of a shooting incident in the township and discovered a 29-year-old woman had been assaulted and shot. They said the woman was treated at a local medical facility and released.

Authorities said following the incident, Vazquez fled the scene.

They are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the barracks at 570-459-3890.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and updates will be made available as to not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.
