Green remains president of NL board
The Northern Lehigh School District Board of Education will continue under the same tutelage in 2026.
Seasoned director Mathias Green Jr. will remain as president of the school board after he was reappointed to the seat during Monday’s reorganization meeting.
Experienced director Gary Fedorcha was reappointed as board vice president.
No other nominations were cast for either position.
Newcomer Timothy Weaber, who won both a four-year and two-year term, declined the two-year term.
Director Angela Williams was absent.
The board will continue to meet at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.
MaryJo King, confidential administrative assistant to the superintendent who serves as school district notary, administered the oath of office to incumbent Fedorcha (four-year term), along with newcomers Crystal Bilby (four-year term), and Timothy Weaber (four-year term). Incumbent Williams, who also won a four-year term, was sworn in last week, according to Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link.
Green then announced that the district will advertise for the vacant two-year term.
He said 3 p.m. Dec. 19 is the last day to apply for the position.
“The law, the official rules in the policy, says, anyone can apply for the job provided they are a citizen of Northern Lehigh School District,” Green said. “We can accept people’s letter of intent as an interest and we can vet those people. We are under no obligation to vote on those people.
“Technically, to win a seat, and you don’t even have to quote apply, a person needs to be nominated by a sitting member of the board, they don’t need a second, because it’s a nomination, and then they need five yes votes from members of the board and they are elected. So if they apply, we will certainly vet them, and that’s not going to hurt you, but you don’t have to apply, and that’s the way we’re going to do it, I think that’s the law.”
Board solicitor Kristine Roddick provided clarity to the situation.
“The board can set the process by which they want to fill a vacancy,” Roddick said. “They can nominate from the floor, you can go through an interview process, everything needs to occur publicly, in terms of the interview, in terms of any deliberation, and in terms of casting a vote for the particular candidate.”
