4 N. Lehigh music students selected to perform at districts

Four Northern Lehigh School District students have been selected to showcase their musical talents.

Northern Lehigh School District Superintendent Matthew J. Link, Ed.D., shared the exciting news at last week’s school board meeting.

“We’ve focused the last couple of years on rebuilding our music program at the elementary, middle and high school level,” Link said. “Every year, we see more of that pay off for our students and really the school district as a whole.”

Link said Northern Lehigh Middle School seventh-graders Julia Juarez and Cassie Fried have been selected to participate in this year’s Pennsylvania Music Education Association District 10 Intermediate Band Festival at Easton Area Middle School at 7 p.m. on Jan. 30, with a snow date of 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 or 3.

“They were chosen from over 47 other schools,” he said. “So 47 schools, we have two of our students were selected from that large candidate pool, that’s incredible.”

Link said it didn’t stop there.

He said Slatington Elementary School students Emma Faust, sixth grade, and Gabriel Vas Dias, fifth grade, were selected to participate in this year’s District 10 Pennsylvania Music Education Association Elementary Band Festival at 7 p.m. on March 11 at Nazareth Area High School, with snow dates on March 12 and 13.

“So kudos to those four students; that is a significant accomplishment, especially at such a young age for elementary and middle school,” he said. “Kudos to our music department as well.”
