Christmas sale

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting its second annual Christmas sale and basket raffle from 9-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

The event will include homemade baked goods plus many other things for sale, including new and vintage Christmas items; Christmas trees and ornaments; indoor and outdoor lights; outdoor decorations; Nativity and related religious items; and Christmas clothing, jewelry and holiday linens.

There will also be dine in and takeout food available, and an Irish coffee bar.

Men’s breakfast

A men’s breakfast will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Quilts, crafts

St. Peter’s UMC is holding a quilt and craft event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Included will be a silent auction of a king-size “disappearing blocks” quilt. In addition, there will be a dozen crafts vendors.

Nature walk

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is holding a nature walk Saturday at the Van Buskirk Haney Park in Saylorsburg. The group will leave the church at 11 a.m.

The intent of the monthly walks is to “get into shape together — physically, mentally, and spiritually!”

Double deadline

The Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s EC church in Kunkletown is holding a filling sale and also a gravy sale. Orders are due by Sunday. Pickup is from 1-5:30 p.m. Nov. 25 at the church.

In addition, Sunday is the last day for St. Matthew’s EC to receive Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes before they are taken to a local location for further travels to children in need.

Crafts, bake sale

The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Auxiliary is having a craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday in support of the fire company.

There will be crafts, including hand-knitted items, crocheted items, natural soaps and gifts for the home.

Picture with Santa will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

There will also be the “burgundy stepping stone” quilt raffle drawing, tricky tray items and bake sale. Lunch will also be available.

The firehouse is located at 797 Route 115 across from the Saylors Inn & the Homecoming Winery in Saylorsburg.

Tuesday luncheon

The next community luncheon hosted by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, after the 12:10 Mass.

Buddy Check

American Legion Buddy Check Week is ongoing until Sunday. Legionnaires check on buddies for Veterans Day as well as during the week of the American Legion’s birthday in March.

The program was launched in 2023.

Community supper

Volunteers at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will be preparing the free community suppers for its drive-through supper program, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Suppers can be picked up beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 19.

PVEN wish lists

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is planning Thanksgiving meals for the families it serves. Needed are turkeys and turkey breasts, gravy mixes, cranberry sauce, canned yams, cornbread mix, stuffing, and pancake mix and syrup.

Shelf-stable donations can be dropped of 24 hours a day in the teal bin outside the food pantry at 2334 Route 209, Sciota. Perishable items can be dropped off from 8-11 a.m. Mondays and Fridays or at other times by appointment. Call 717-992-3136 to make arrangements.

Other items PVEN needs: coats and lined hoodies for all ages and sizes; winter gloves for all ages and sizes; body wash, lotion and deodorant, blankets, sheets and towels. The Diaper Pantry also needs baby formula and baby food; adult pull-ups and bladder protection pads.

‘Ask the Deacon’

The Altar & Rosary November meeting at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Cafe. The time is being dedicated to “Ask the Deacon.”

PV Bingo

PV Cheerleading second annual toy bingo will be held Nov. 22 in the Pleasant Valley Intermediate School cafeteria. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Games begin at noon.

Discover Advent

From 6-8 p.m. Nov. 24, all parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church are invited to Discover Advent.

Open to all ages, it will take place in McCawley Hall and include dinner and discovering “the many customs and traditions” of the Catholic faith for the special season of Advent.

Cannoli sale

Zion Lutheran Church is accepting orders for 6-inch long cannoli, filled with Italian cannoli cream and mini-chocolate chips, throughout November. Pickup date is Dec. 6 from noon-3 p.m.

Gun club events

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding its next block shoot and meat raffle on Dec. 7, beginning at 11 a.m., at 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg.

It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event. The public is welcome.

The next meeting of the grief support group at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville is set from 1-2:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

Medicare enrollment

The annual Medicare Open Enrollment continues until Dec. 7.

Counselors will help qualifying folks at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church on Route 209 in Brodheadsville. That counseling is free.

QV Christmas

Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living historical farm, will host its Old Time Christmas on two weekends: Dec. 6 and 7, and Dec. 13 and 14.

Volunteers are needed for actors, singers, readers, guides and support personnel. Each shift will be about 3½ hours long.

The tours for visitors will run about every 15 minutes, from 2:30 to 7 p.m.

The event will feature seven different “stations” each day, ranging from the live nativity and caroling to Pennsylvania German traditions and Christmas Tales of Yore, to the Belsnickel visit, handcrafted gifts and tasty baked treats.

Volunteers also are needed for the cookie baking pre-event activity on Nov. 12, 13, 14 and Nov. 24.
