Harry Eckhart, a 50-year member of the Coaldale Fire Department, was honored last night for his long service to company, although he was confined to bed with illness.

Eckhart, 86, was slated to be honored at a testimonial dinner three days ago and could not attend the fete at the Coaldale V.F.W. Post Home.

The 50 firemen and guests in attendance decided to go ahead with the program as a tribute to Eckhart’s service in the company.

Eckhart will be presented a 50-year membership pin at a later date by company president Tony Wargo.

T.J. Evans and Thomas West, both of Coaldale, are the only other living 50-year members of the company.
