Coaldale council to begin search for new solicitor

Coaldale Borough Council solicitor Robert Yurchak will likely be stepping down at the end of the year.

During Tuesday’s council meeting, Councilwoman Kim Gavornik asked Yurchak about his plans for the new year.

“Are you going to plan to stay with us, or are you going to be retiring?” she asked.

“I’m not officially retiring but my plan at this point is to probably just step down at the end of the year,” Yurchak answered.

Gavornik asked whether the borough should advertise to fill his role.

“You can do that or you can call around — whatever you want to do,” Yurchak said.

Councilman Wayne Figner asked Yurchak if he had any recommendations.

“Not off the top of my head,” Yurchak said.

In an unrelated matter, council appointed Garth Jones as the borough’s representative to the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority.

Jones was one of four applicants for the position.

The spot opened upon the recent resignation of authority member Mary Ann Flyzik, who is moving from the area.
