Date correction

Zion Lutheran Church is hosting its free drive-through community supper beginning at 5 p.m. on Oct. 22. Volunteers are asked to be there at 2:30 p.m.

Chestnuthill mtg.

The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the township’s municipal building on Rt. 715 in Brodheadsville.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township board of supervisors is slated to meet tonight at 7 p.m.

The township has announced its Trick or Treat will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 31. The Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company will be on hand to monitor the event.

Legion Auxiliary

The West End Memorial American Legion Auxiliary 927 will meet at 7 p.m., tomorrow, at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Rummage sale

Middlecreek Christian Church is having a rummage sale with accompanying bake table, soup by the quart for sale, and bag sales on Friday and Saturday.

Donations may still be brought today through 7 p.m. as well as tomorrow from noon to 6 p.m.

Friday hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday’s (with bag sale) are from 9 a.m. to noon.

No electronics, exercise equipment, luggage, large furniture, or items scented from smoke or pets is the request of any donor.

Medicare enrollment

The annual open enrollment period for Medicare has begun as of today through Dec. 7. Counselors for the counties several centers are trained and are free.

The West End’s Senior Center is at Zion Lutheran Church.

Seniors with questions can call 570-420-3735 to set up an appointment.

Men’s breakfast

A men’s breakfast will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church after the 8 a.m. Mass on Saturday.

Ongoing display

The works of artists Claudia Hill from Brodheadsville and Joan Lech from Lehighton, titled “From Nature to Art,” will be on display at the Kettle Creek Art Gallery’s during the gallery’s open hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25.

There is no charge for the program. Preregistration is not required.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a Farmers Market beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Classes resume

Families having children in Religious Education at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church are reminded that classes for religious education will resume Sunday.

Monday luncheon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold its next Community luncheon at 1 p.m. Monday, after the 12:10 Mass.

Registration deadline

The deadline for voter registration for those not registered for the upcoming election is on Monday. The last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot is Oct. 28.

Order deadline

Friday is the deadline for ordering the fall bird seed from Aspen Song Bird Seed Blends as being held by Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

Also being offered are Droll Yankee and other feeders, some of which are squirrel proof.

Call the Center at 570-629-3061 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on some Saturdays to place an order or have an order form mailed.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The order form also can be downloaded from www.mcconservation.org. Prices are reduced for this truckload sale.

Special baby shower

The Altar and Rosary Society at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting its annual baby shower to benefit Shepherd’s Maternity House.

The following items are on the wish list: diapers (size 2,3,4), wipes, boy baby clothes ( size 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 mo.), sleep sacks (size 0-3, 3-6), receiving blankets, swaddles, boy/girl burp clothes, Nuk bottles and nipples, changing pads, nasal aspirator, towels, finger toothbrushes, medicine dropper, baby nail clippers and emery boards.

Anything donated will be put in the cradle in the atrium.

Saints parade

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a Saints parade as seen through the eyes of third-grade students who share their vision of their favorite saint at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 26.

Grocery Bingo

Operation Touch of Home is holding a grocery bingo on Oct. 26 at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville. Sponsors and tickets are needed.

Driver Course

AARP’s Smart Driver Course will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29 for those who do not currently have an AARP driver safety Certificate of Completion.

For those who have this certificate, the refresher course is set for noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Advance registration is required for both.

Annual bazaar

St. Matthew’s Laymen’s Fellowship in Kunkletown will host its annual bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 1.

There will be a ticket raffle, tricky tray, bake sale, food to dine in or take out and lots of fellowship. Soup will be available for purchase by the quart. Baked goods may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 31, or brought on the day of the bazaar.

Raffle tickets may be purchased now or at the bazaar. See any Laymen’s Fellowship member for tickets. Donations are welcome. If donating, bring donation to St. Matthew’s before Oct. 26.

In addition, there will be many new items for sale at the North Pole Mercantile.

Polk Historical

The Polk Township Historical Society will meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1, at the township’s municipal building located at 165 Polk Township Road, Kresgeville.

Filling sale

St. Matthew’s Laymen’s fellowship is accepting orders for filling. Orders can be given to any Laymen’s Fellowship member or call the church at 610-381-2442 between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday until Nov. 16.

Filling orders may be picked up from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.

St. John’s event

On Nov. 4, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Merwinsburg Road, Effort, is hosting a Taco and Grub Food Truck event, beginning at 11 a.m. until sellout.

The church also will host a bake sale.

Book launch

On Nov. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m., Deborah Niemoczynski of Saylorsburg is launching her book “Raising Ruth,” at Klingel’s Farm Store in Saylorsburg.

The book, “set in a rural farming community with fields, crops, and animals,” shares Ruth’s life as it unfolded on a small farm more than 100 years ago.

Elva Hurst of Lititz’ watercolor illustrations detail that rural lifestyle.

The event will include storytelling, page readings, Q&A with the author, and light refreshments.

Rebate reminder

The deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate for applicants 65 or older, widows/widowers 50 or older, or 18 or older with a disability has been extended to Dec. 31. The amount to be issued is based on the applicant’s annual income, which must have been $45,000 or less in 2024.
