Data center developer presents plan in Tresckow
Developers of a proposed data center in Banks and Packer townships met the public Tuesday night, but didn’t have many answers.
In fact, the session at the Tresckow Hosey was meant to gather information so the developer, NorthPoint Development of Kansas City, Missouri, can formulate its proposal.
Another such session will be held next Tuesday night in Packer Township, according to Brian Stahl, executive vice president of strategic initiatives for NorthPoint.
Stahl said the firm will seek a zoning overlay to build the facility on 1,200 acres it purchased on the top of Tresckow Mountain rather than seek a zoning change, because if the data center doesn’t work out, the land will continue to have its conservation zoning designation.
The land is attractive to NorthPoint because there is an existing power line that can service the facility.
Stahl said it hasn’t been determined if the facility would have a closed water system. If it were closed, less water would be needed.
If not, 2 million gallons per day would be drawn from the Quakake Tunnel, cleaned up, used and then returned to the environment.
About 8.5 million gallons of water leave the Quakake Tunnel every day.
There are data center proposals in Kline and Penn Forest townships, but this one and one pending in Hazle Township are the only NorthPoint projects.
“We don’t want it,” was yelled by one of the approximately 150 people who came out for the meeting.
