Pleasant Vy. is finalist for grant

Money supports equipment or facility upgrades

Pleasant Valley High School has been named one of 25 finalists nationwide in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program, which recognizes the power of high school football to bring communities together.

The Bears are the only finalist from Pennsylvania, and will receive a $25,000 grant to support equipment or facility upgrades. Pleasant Valley also earned a $5,000 “5K Friday” award earlier this season.

“This recognition is a testament to the power of our community,” said James Korcienski, Pleasant Valley’s director of athletics. “From our student leaders and athletes to our staff and local residents, everyone has played a part in getting us to this point. This isn’t just a school accomplishment; it’s a success for everyone who calls this community home.”

What’s next

As part of the program, Pleasant Valley will be recognized during its home football game on Friday, Oct. 10 against rival Pocono Mountain East at the school’s stadium, 1671 Route 209 in Brodheadsville. The celebration will include giveaways, games and free concessions for fans, all sponsored by T-Mobile.

Pleasant Valley now has the chance to claim the grand prize — a $1 million field upgrade that comes with a renovated weight room from Gronk Fitness, a consultation with stadium-experience experts, an all-expenses-paid trip for 16 school representatives to the SEC Championship Game, and a 2026 tailgate party revealing the completed upgrades.

How to help

The winner will be decided through community voting, which is open through Oct. 24. Supporters can vote once per day at FridayNight5GLights.com, with the grand prize winner set to be announced Oct. 30.
