September 26, 1977 — Ricky Searfoss picks up 158 rushing yards and scores his team’s only touchdown as Jim Thorpe gains a narrow 8-6 victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech. The Olympians fall behind in the opening quarter, but Searfoss breaks free for a 62-yard scoring run in the second. Jim Melber, who gains 57 yards rushing in the game, runs in the two-point conversion to give the Olympians, coached by Bruce Krasley, the lead. Thorpe’s defense stops a fourth-quarter threat by the Rams, ending a drive on downs at the JT 22-yard line. In all, the Olympians’ D allows just 85 yards of offense.
