Slatington man charged following Washington Township break-in

A Slatington man has been charged with attempting to burglarize a home in Washington Township.

According to the affidavit filed by Trooper Raheem Ford of the Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem barracks, in the case against Thomas Schaub:

At 1:35 p.m. last Wednesday, police were dispatched to the 7000 block of Walnut Street for a burglary in progress.

Ford was told that the victim chased the suspect out of his house.

Police began canvassing the area and Ford spoke with the victim, who said that he was in a separate room attached to his garage when he heard what sounded like someone walking into the garage.

The victim then heard the kitchen screen door opening, and as he walked through his residence he confronted the defendant later identified as Schaub, 47, and told him to get out.

He followed him outside the residence.

The victim saw Schaub walk down his driveway north toward Slatington, and described him as a white man between the age of 20-30 with no shirt, no shoes and green pants, with a full left arm sleeve tattoo and one across his back shoulder.

The victim said that nothing was missing from the residence.

At 2:14 p.m., Slatington Police Department police Chief William Borst reported that he had a man matching Schaub’s description detained on Railroad Street, near the D&L Trail.

Schaub was taken into custody and identified by the victim.

Schaub faces charges of burglary and criminal trespass.

He is currently incarcerated in the Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Oct. 29 before District Judge Tom Creighton.
