Schuylkill residents invited to government talk
Schuylkill County residents are invited to learn more about their county government — and find out how they can access a host of services at anytime, from anywhere and without even having to leave their homes.
“Navigating Schuylkill 24/7” will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Alvernia University’s Pottsville CollegeTown, 500 Progress Ave., Pottsville.
Schuylkill County Controller Sharyn Yackenchick and Treasurer Linda Yeich will offer a comprehensive look at the duties of the county’s elected officials and the wealth of information that they and the county can provide.
Yeich said she will share links and information about valuable information.
“Schuylkill County Courthouse updated their website recently and knowing where to go and how to find the information outside of business hours is valuable to our constituents,” Yeich said.
The updates mean that folks don’t have to take time off from work or drive to the courthouse in Pottsville when it’s open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
While visiting the courthouse is still an option, Yaich said everything from information on marriage licenses to criminal cases can be found online.
“Both Sharyn and I want attendees (of Schuylkill 24/7) to stay current with courthouse services and gain fresh perspective that can boost attendees’ growth personally and professionally, whether you are looking for civil or criminal case information, passports, marriage licenses, various licenses to carry, dogs, fishing, hunting or a wealth of real estate information,” Yeich said.
Yackenchick will provide an overview of six of the elected officials’ office duties. They’ll learn about services of the controller, treasurer, clerk of courts, prothonotary and recorder of deeds.
They’ll also learn about estate searches through the register of wills, sheriff sale searches from the Sheriff’s Office, and a range of real estate and property information such as CAMA cards, real estate tax bills, map viewer and planning and zoning data.
Information on accessing delinquent real estate tax information through Elite Revenue Service and Portnoff Law Associates will also be presented.
