September 13, 1958 — Playing in its community after nine years of having to use the Lansford Stadium, Coaldale opens the season with a 20-0 victory over Blythe Township. The Tigers, coached by Bill Roller, jump out to a fast start as Tom Surotchak’s lengthy punt return sets up a 13-yard, first-quarter touchdown pass from Greg Posta to Steve Vahovich. The winners extend their margin in the third frame when they complete a 12-play, 59-yard drive with a Posta 2-yard burst into the end zone. Coaldale adds insurance in the fourth on Joe Terry’s 6-yard scoring run.
