Lehighton names assistant manager, treasurer
Two people have accepted employment to fill administrative positions in the Borough of Lehighton.
At a special meeting last Tuesday, borough council made separate motions to hire the top candidates for the newly created assistant borough manager position, as well as a treasurer position.
After that meeting, borough Manager Dane DeWire declined to name the people until they accepted the positions and passed their screenings.
While no discussion on the topic took place at Monday’s council meeting, DeWire released the names of the employee after the meeting.
DeWire said Brooke Lichtenwalter has accepted the newly created assistant borough manager position at the rate of $58,000, with a start date of Sept. 22.
He said Lichtenwalter currently serves as secretary/treasurer in Washington Township.
The assistant borough manager position will provide management duties and clerical support to borough staff and residents under the direction of the borough manager.
The position will involve assisting in departmental supervision, strategic planning, capital planning, infrastructure, event coordination and information technology, among other things.
The advertised salary for the position was $55,000 to $65,000 based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package is included.
DeWire said Tara Takerer has accepted the treasurer position at the rate of $56,000, with a start date of Sept. 22.
Takerer is currently the treasurer in Bowmanstown Borough.
The treasurer provides accounting duties and clerical support to the borough, including administering the municipality’s accounts payable, payroll, deposits, financial reports, taxes and pensions.
The advertised salary for the position was $50,000 to $60,000 based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package is included.
At last Tuesday’s special meeting, DeWire said council intended to interview six candidates for the treasurer position and three for the assistant borough manager post.
Council then went into an executive session, and then amended the meeting agenda to add discussion on the hiring of candidates for the vacancies.
Separate motions were then made to hire the top candidate for both positions, pending offer acceptance, background checks and preemployment screening.
