Planning for Lansford’s 150th anniversary next year continues with organizers working on a logo, commemorative items, fundraising and events ideas, including a concert, festival and fireworks.
The Aug. 26 meeting had a good turnout, with many ideas discussed and a push to get more young people involved in the celebration.
The group is already working with Carbon Career & Technical Institute students to come up with ideas for a logo, which is in the final stages. Discussion also focused on producing banners.
For fundraising, Dave Matsinko agreed to perform at American Legion Post 123 on Nov. 1, and logistics are being worked through.
The group also discussed selling shirts, hats, pens and other commemorative items, and is looking for local vendors to produce them.
Proposed 150th celebration events include a large concert in the stadium, possibly with a military band, next summer. Logistics are being discussed.
Other ideas included a festival, fireworks and events involving the area’s youth.
The next meeting will be Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Legion post on West Ridge Street.
The public is invited to attend, as the group continues to seek more ideas for the big 150th celebration and assistance planning events through the year.
