A Lehigh County commissioner has been arrested and is facing drug charges.

Commissioner Zachary Cole-Borghi, of Bethlehem, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at his office inside Bethlehem City Hall.

Cole-Borghi is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He was arraigned and has posted bail.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan made the announcement at a Friday morning press conference, where he gave details of the sweeping drug investigation that spanned about three years and culminated in multiple arrests Thursday in Lehigh County, Northampton County, Montgomery County, The City of Philadelphia, New York City, Chicago and the state of Wisconsin.

Holihan said the investigation remains ongoing.

“There have been 22 individuals who have been arrested as part of this investigation,” Holihan said. “We anticipate more arrests as the investigation proceeds.”

Holihan said the Lehigh County Drug Task Force led the investigation and was assisted by federal, state and local agencies.

He said 26 search warrants were executed Thursday on businesses and homes throughout this region and beyond.

Holihan said search warrants are still being processed at over 200 financial institutions including banks and various cryptocurrency accounts.

“To date, some of the items that have been seized includes well over $100,000 in cash, cryptocurrency accounts, more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana, large quantities of THC, liquid cocaine and MDMA pills,” he said. “Additionally, at least 25 firearms were seized (Thursday), including semiautomatic rifles and ghost guns.

“As part of the operation (Thursday), two clandestine labs were discovered manufacturing illegal THC products. Those labs were discovered and dismantled by members of the Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Laboratory Team.”

Cole-Borghi was elected to the Lehigh County Commission, District 3, in 2021.
