The Palmerton Community Band will close the 2025 summer concert series with a performance at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Palmerton Borough Park (weather permitting).
The concert will include a variety of selections by American composers in all styles.
Marches will include Sousa’s “Daughters of Texas” and “Stars and Stripes Forever” and Henry Fillmore’s “Crossley March.”
From Broadway the band will perform Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Wrong Note Rag” from “Wonderful Town.”
Popular music selections will include Leroy Anderson’s “Forgotten Dreams,” George and Ira Gerschwin’s “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” with vocal soloist Joseph Plechavy and additional selections from contemporary composers.
This concert is hosted and coordinated by the Bandstand Committee of the Palmerton Concourse Club with financial support provided for the 2025 concert series by the Harry Brown estate.
Conductor Joseph Plechavy and assistant conductor Mitchell Hourt, will share the podium in leading the band during the performance.
“We have been very happy with the number of people who have attended our concerts and shown their support for the entire concert series,” Plechavy said.
Hourt added, “We have been fortunate to have good weather and great audiences for our first two concerts and we are hoping for another great crowd on Sunday.”
The Palmerton Community Band is composed of musicians from Palmerton and surrounding communities and counties and is open to adults, college and high school students.
