Back to school
The Panther Valley School District welcomes students back to school for the 2025-2026 school year on Monday, Aug. 25. It will be a full day.
Time schedules are as follows:
• JSHS (grades 7-12) 7:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
• Intermediate School (grades 4-6) 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Elementary School (grades K-3) 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
In-service activities are planned for staff members Aug. 19, 20 and 21.
Open House for all students is Aug. 21.
• JSHS: 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
• Intermediate: 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
• Elementary: 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
Senior Center
The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu for Aug. 18-22.
Monday: Breaded Pork Patty, Red Potatoes, Cauliflower and Peas, Pound Cake or Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Tuesday: Orange Chicken, Brown Rice, Carrots, Pineapple or Chicken Caesar salad
Wednesday: Swedish Meatballs, Pasta, Green Beans, Applesauce or Ham Salad Sandwich
Thursday: Broccoli and Cheese Soup, Breaded Chicken Sandwich, Sweet Potato Tots, Clementine Beef and Cheese Sandwich
Friday: Meat loaf, Mashed Potatoes, Wax Beans, Pudding or Chicken Ranch Salad
The center has also announced the following upcoming events:
Axe Throwing Game on Aug. 13 at 11 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.; Skeeball on Aug. 15 at 11 a.m.
Game Day on Aug. 18 at 11 a.m.; Birthday Bingo on Aug. 19 at 10:45 a.m.; Paint and Sip with Maple Shade Meadows on Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Aug. 21 at 11 a.m.; Movie and Popcorn on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m.
Cards, Pool, Games, available daily from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. New members are welcome.

Nesquehoning
Recreation Commission
The recreation commission has announced the fifth annual community yard sale will be held Aug. 16 and 17.
The commission will also host Crazy Cone Day from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 24 at How Sweet It Is Ice Cream parlor on East Catawissa Street. Nesquehoning children 12 and under are welcome to visit and get a free medium ice cream cone. Parents must have an ID ready for proof of residency.
Looking ahead: The recreation commission will hold its Fall Basket Raffle on Sept. 5 and 6 at the recreation center, 335 W. Railroad St. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 10 a.m. until the time of the drawing at 4 p.m. on Sept. 6. Proceeds from the event go toward events at the recreation center, as well as the upkeep of the local parks. Food will be available for purchase.
