Carbon shifting positions, salaries

At the beginning of 2025, Carbon County officials said that there would be no new full-time positions added to the county employment.

To date, that statement remains true, however, some shifting around has taken place as part of the wage study that occurred several years ago.

On Thursday, the county salary board approved several moves.

Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko, who also chairs the salary board, said that while the actions seem like a lot, they were the continuation of reassessing salaries and better defining job descriptions, matching them up to the proper salary scales that the county now uses.

He added that the county also continues its commitment to hold the line on the number of full-time positions.

“The number on the list of full-time employees here in the county has remained the same,” Sofranko said. “We did not increase any staff, we just simply moved staff around.”
