Slatington officials are warning people to lock their vehicles.
Police Chief William Borst said, “For June of 2025 there were 361 calls. There were 12 break-ins of cars that were unlocked in the borough in six days. Please lock your cars. Don’t leave valuable items in your cars.”
Borst said the department is starting a nighttime team of officers.
“It will consist of three officers on different nights, at high risk times, while regular officers will be on duty. “We hope this will be a deterrent for crime,” he said.
Mayor Jeralyn Schoch echoed those thoughts. “I would like everyone to remember to lock your cars at night.,” she said.
Borst also said, “I would like council to consider an ordinance about no sleeping or camping in public places for the homeless. There have been lots of complaints. We attempt to place them in shelters. They do not want to go. We are also exploring a Neighborhood Watch for the borough.”
Borough council approved of Borst assigning an officer to an acting sergeant position.
The department has not had a sergeant in the department for five years. Council approved a resolution for police vehicle (LCA Grant).
The board discussed the benefits of sirens in town and placing street addresses on the rear of homes. Both will be discussed in Committee.
With the recent 911 outage, “The non-emergency number for Lehigh County 911 has always been 610-437-5252.”
