The Center Stage Theatre will present “Shrek the Musical Jr.” Friday through Sunday at the Tamaqua Arts Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.
The magical, laugh-out-loud and family-friendly production will be performed by 45 community youths at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Based on the beloved DreamWorks animated film and the Broadway musical, “Shrek the Musical Jr.” follows the story of an unlikely hero — Shrek, an ogre who embarks on a quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona with the help of his wisecracking sidekick, Donkey. Along the way, they encounter a colorful cast of fairy tale misfits, proving that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
Center Stage Theatre believes that theatre should be a safe, inclusive and fun space where young people can grow artistically, socially and emotionally. Through programs like “Shrek the Musical Jr.”, the organization fosters confidence, teamwork and self-expression in every child who takes the stage.
The show is directed by Amy Green, with Heather Kerestus as assistant director, Aimee Hegedus as music director, Jill Hartranft as choreographer, and Katie Garvey as stage manager.
