The Reading and Northern Railroad Passenger Department will be getting into the holiday spirit early this year by celebrating “Christmas in July” this coming weekend. To mark the midyear tradition, Santa Claus will be appearing at the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Jim Thorpe, this weekend, dressed in his summer best. Trains will depart the Jim Thorpe station at 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 4:30 p.m.
Families will have the opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus, and all onboard passengers will receive candy canes.
Tickets for 2025 LGSR Santa Claus and Winter Character trains are on sale now at www.lgsry.com and by phone at 570-325-8485.
Santa Claus trains begin operation Nov. 28 with 80-minute rides departing Jim Thorpe at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3:30 p.m. Thereafter, Mondays through Wednesdays in December will host Winter Character trains, while Thursdays through Sundays will feature Santa Claus and his helpers. The week leading up to Christmas, beginning Dec. 18, will be Santa Claus trains entirely.
These trains make their rounds to traditional locations, such as Tunkhannock, Nesquehoning, Tamaqua, Minersville, Pittston, and Reading, and begin on Nov. 29. As with the LGSR trains, the community trains are 80 minutes in duration and depart their respective stations at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3:30 p.m.
