A project in Lehighton is up for bid again after unforeseen work canceled the bids earlier this year.
The Carbon County Commissioners announced earlier this year that bidding for the Lehighton American Legion Post 314’s parking lot rehabilitation project is again open.
The project scope includes reconstructing the parking lot area of the legion.
Bids are now being received until 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 on PennBid, at which time they will be opened and publicly read during the commissioners’ meeting. Bids will then be tabled for review and either awarded or rejected within 30 days.
This is the second time the county has bid this project on behalf of the legion.
In March, the board opened bidding; however, in April, the bidding was canceled because of unforeseen circumstances regarding more work that was needed that wasn’t included in the project outline.
The county is overseeing the bidding because in October 2023, the board submitted an application on the legion’s behalf to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a Monroe County Local Share Account grant for $73,581, which was later approved by the state.
At that time, Commissioner Rocky Ahner said the county is serving as the liaison because the Lehighton American Legion “is one of the central locations in the county for veterans.”
