Nesquehoning man charged with assault

A Nesquehoning man faces multiple criminal charges following an assault in a borough home last week.

Salvatore Canzoneri, 37, of East Garibaldi Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and simple assault, two counts each; reckless endangerment and harassment.

He was arraigned by District Judge Beth Dodson on Friday and jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $125,000 bail.

According to court papers, a woman told Nesquehoning police that she had been by Canzoneri in her home.

Canzoneri choked her, threw her against a wall, banged her head against the wall, threw her on the floor, placed a pillow over her face and choked her with his hands, court papers said.

Police directed the woman to seek emergency medical and also obtain a Protection from Abuse Order for the Carbon County Courthouse, court papers said.
