Lansford: Surveys key to funding
Lansford Borough will be sending out surveys to residents this week in order to qualify for Community Development Block Grant funding to reconstruct West Ridge Street.
All households need to complete the survey, which seeks information on the family’s income range and other limited demographics to determine if the neighborhood qualifies for CDBG funding.
CDBG funding supports projects that benefit low and moderate income individuals, and the surveys from a randomized list will determine community eligibility for this project.
“We cannot stress enough the importance of your cooperation in completing and signing this survey,” a notice on the borough’s social media page states. “All households must complete the survey in order for CDBG funds to be utilized.”
Previously, the borough sought to use CDBG funds to rehabilitate Cortright Street from Abbott to Water streets, but failed to get enough survey responses from residents to use the funds.
Lansford had to shift its 2024 funding from the streets improvement project to a demolition project.
The borough wants to use the CDBG funds to reconstruct two-block stretch of West Ridge Street from Center to Cortright streets.
Surveys need to be returned by Aug. 4, and self-addressed, stamped envelope is included in this mail to facilitate the survey’s return.
Residents with questions can call the borough office at 570-645-3900 or David Bodnar, director of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development, which oversees the CDBG program, at 570-325-3671 for more information.
