Eldred Twp. told paving projects done for this year

Eldred Township’s paving projects are 100% done for this year.

Jonathon Gula, the supervisor of the Public Works Department, told the supervisors at their meeting on Wednesday that Bruce George Paving and Excavating had completed this season’s paving project.

The contract for the work was awarded in June. Bruce George’s bid was $120,356.10.

Gula said the company did go over the amount of blacktop it thought would be used by 20 ton.

“Our roads are pretty bad,” Gula said. “So we were putting a half-inch in the first 2 feet of the road, and then we were putting in 6, 7, 8 inches just because the roads are so bad.”

Ross Township let Eldred use its moon paver, so the township put down 18-inch stone shoulders on the road.

“Bruce George is a fantastic company to work with,” Gula said. “They do excellent work.”

Gula said his crews completed pipe replacement job on Borger Road. They had to dam the stream, pump the water across the road, run it through a set of filters, and put it back in the creek.

That completes the number of pipes that needed to be replaced on Borger Road from Silver Springs Boulevard to Church Road.

“So hopefully that section of road can get paved next year,” Gula said.

Public Works Department workers have been busy at the Eldred Township Community Center. Gula said they pressure washed the outside of the community center to get it ready for the GoJoe Tour coming through around 3 p.m. on July 24, bleached the window sills, touched up with paint, replaced the trim on the sign, and put down fresh mulch.

“Looks good,” he said. “It has some good curb appeal to it.”
