July 17, 1978 — An outstanding pitching performance by Bill Keegan allows Jim Thorpe to register a 7-0 victory over Lansford during the District 18 11-12 tournament. Keegan tosses a three-hit shutout, strikes out 11 and never allows a runner to reach third base. The winners give Keegan all the run support he needs when they score three runs in the first inning. Scott Kmetz walks and comes home with the first run on a single by Wayne Stehle. An RBI hit by Jim Miller makes it 2-0, while an error accounts for the third tally. Kmetz adds a two-run homer in the fifth, while Miller knocks in another run with a double in the sixth.
