Franklin police chief addresses concerns about Long Run Rd.

Franklin Township Chief of Police Jason Doll attended the board of supervisors meeting Tuesday to discuss traffic issues that were brought up at the board’s June 17 meeting.

“After last month’s meeting, the supervisors contacted me with concerns people were having with traffic on Long Run Road,” Doll said.

Doll said that he installed a radar sign that shows drivers their rate of speed along Long Run Road near one of the areas of concern.

“That particular radar sign, at some point, someone hit it with a piece of equipment and took it down,” Doll said. “And based on what we could see, it looks like it was done deliberately.”

He indicated the sign would be put back along the road soon.

“One of the other concerns that was brought up, they were concerned that when they do see (police) traffic stops, they see them on Route 209 or Route 248,” Doll said. “My job is do direct the enforcement to the areas where we have accident issues and concerns. Unfortunately, (routes) 248 and 209 are our highest accident corridors. The stop sign at the end of the turnpike ramp is the number one site for accidents in our township.”

Doll mentioned a program run by the state that pays overtime for officers.

“We’re involved in an aggressive driver program until Aug. 17, where we’re going to be receiving refunded overtime from the state through the Highway Safety Network to do some extra hours for traffic,” he said. “We’re going to try to do the best that we to try to amp it up as much as we can to try to resolve some of the issues.”

Doll encouraged people to approach him directly with issues to enable the department to quickly address the concerns.

“Ultimately, our goal is that we don’t want to see accidents,” he said.
