Jim Thorpe Borough Council is testing out a short-term parking space for people wishing to pop into the Dimmick Memorial Library.
Council passed the motion to create one 15-minute spot near the library during its meeting last week after Steve Uliana, president of the board for Dimmick Memorial Library, approached council with the request.
The Dimmick Memorial Library filed a Request For Action to install two 15-minute parking spaces in the lower part of Broadway between the square and Acorn Court.
“We are looking for help for guests and visitors, or someone who just going to drop off a book,” Uliana said. “Many times they avoid stopping because their options are to risk a ticket, try to find a parking space on Broadway, or pay for a whole day in the county municipal lot. We find we are losing some folks.”
Uliana pointed out that other businesses are having similar problems and could benefit from such parking spots. The two spots requested would be for any of the businesses.
Following the vote, council noted that the Police Committee will speak with Police Chief Joseph Schatz to determine the appropriate parking space, and have the Borough Solicitor James Nanovic draft an amendment to the ordinance.
