Walnutport presents $39,000 to nonprofits

Several nonprofit organizations have received their yearly donations from Walnutport.

Borough council on Thursday unanimously agreed to disburse a total of $39,000 in yearly budgeted donations after all the financials were received, with donations disbursed in June.

Diamond Fire Company saw the largest amount at $28,000, followed by Northern Valley Ambulance Association ($5,000), Slatington Public Library ($3,000), fire police ($2,000), and Walnutport Recreation Board ($1,000).

Resident Ronald Hatcher asked how the amounts given out are determined.

Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz noted that all the donations are within the borough’s budget.

Yearly donations have been static for years. The same organizations received the same exact donations last year as this year.

Last month, borough council tabled dispersing yearly budgeted donations to the organizations due to not having received all the paperwork and final review.
