Monroe recognizes recreation month, Scout

Monroe County commissioners presented a certificate to Landyn Timothy Hinton in honor of his Eagle Scout award, and proclaimed July to be Parks and Recreation Month in Monroe County. The commissioners presented the proclamation to Autumn Hawthorne, the executive director of Stroud Regional Open Space.

Commissioner David C. Parker read from the proclamation that acknowledged the many benefits of parks, and said the commissioners encourage “all residents to recognize the value of local parks and participate in recreational activities that strengthen our community.”

Parker thanked Hawthorne for her work and mentioned that she is a member of the America 250 commission and the Parks and Recreation, which have come up with a 250 for 250 walk in the parks. He asked her to give more information.

Hawthorne said, “We’re trying to see how many people we can get to get 250 miles over the next year. It’s 250 for 250, and it’s walk, roll, paddle, however you explore Monroe County’s outdoors. Go ahead and log those miles for the program.”

The miles can be logged in on the Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation Commission website at https://www.srosrc.org/250for250.

Parker said, “It’s not that hard. I did 2½ miles on Sunday. … Five a week will get you there pretty easily.”

Credit rating

At the end of the meeting, Chairman John Christy made a brief statement about the county’s credit rating with Moody’s.

“We had our Moody’s, rating call, which we had frequently, yearly, and our ratings stayed the same at Aa3,” Christy said. “There was some concern with regard to us continuing owning the nursing home, and when we explained to them that we had recently sold the nursing home, that helped us keep our ratings at the level that we working to keep.”

According to Moody’s, its ratings range from Aaa to C with short-term ratings of Prime-1, Prime-2 or Prime-3. This provides a picture of the borrower’s ability to repay short-term debts.
