Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on the following items during its recent meeting.
• Approved hiring Matt Houser as a part-time police officer at the standard starting salary rate for part-time officers. No start date had been set.
• Approved paying off the Hauto Fire Company loan for its pumper truck. The final payment was approximately $14,000.
• Approved waiving sewer charges for Family Promise due to a water issue. This is the second, and last time, this will be waived for water issues, council noted.
• Approved ordinance 2025-02 amending the solid waste collection and disposal rules.
It was noted that everyone who owns property in the borough will be responsible for paying the garbage fees.
• Approved a letter of interest, as well as appointed Kathy Swolensky to serve on the Nesquehoning Recreation Commission. Councilman Paul Kattner abstained.
• Ratified the purchase of a new printer for the borough office.
• Announced that the borough is currently in negotiations with Teamsters union for the borough office staff.
