During their meeting on Wednesday morning, the Monroe County commissioners acknowledged the passing of two residents: one who served on an advisory council and an authority.
The Advisory Council for the Area Agency on Aging lost Richard Waibel on May 31. Commissioner David Parker said Waibel had worked for his office when he was a state representative.
“He had a great heart for seniors,” Parker said. “He ran our Senior Series that we would do every May. He was active with RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), and always helped out with their program every year. ... He’s definitely going to be missed in our community because he really worked hard to help our seniors here.”
On the Monroe County Municipal Waste Authority, John Ferro served as chairman and represented the eastern part of Monroe County. He died on May 13.
Commissioner Chairman John Christy said, “John was a servant to the county, and many, many different hats that he wore, and we appreciate all that his family shared with the county with him. Thank you.”
The commissioners appointed Gary Walck to fill the remaining of Ferro’s unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2028.
