West End 8-10 All-Stars win D-29 title

For the first time, the West End 8-10 Year Old All-Star softball team is headed to sectionals — and making history along the way.

West End captured the 2025 Pennsylvania District 29 championship with an 8-4 win over East Stroudsburg in a six-inning, rain-soaked contest.

The win capped a dominant run through the tournament, as West End went 3-0 and outscored its opponents 40-9.

Lydia Bealer struck out 14 batters in the championship game, and totaled 37 strikeouts over 14 innings of district play. Emma Nicholas and Larkin Heller split duties behind the plate and were key defensively, combining for multiple outs at home on stolen base attempts and passed balls.

Madison Figueroa crossed the plate in each of her plate appearances, scoring three runs to lead the offense.

The All-Star roster includes Emma Nicholas, Larkin Heller, Lydia Bealer, Madison Figueroa, Bay Figueroa, Paislee Smith, Lyndsay Heckman, Olivia Burke, Sophia Redmond, Jackie Newell, Mia Mullin and Victoria Hess. The team is coached by Mike Nicholas, with assistants Dave Burke, Rob Mullin and Chris Figueroa.

West End will host the sectional tournament, which begins Saturday. The field is located at 570 Fairgrounds Road in Gilbert.

Game 1 will feature West End vs. Weatherly at 11:30 a.m., followed by Northwest vs. Warrington in Game 2 at 2:30 p.m. Depending on results, the bracket will set the stage for the remainder of the tournament, which will continue on Sunday.

In addition to the action on the field, the team will raise funds through concessions, a 50/50 raffle and donations during the event.

Community support is welcomed and appreciated as the team continues its postseason run.
