Tamaqua used a big fifth inning, and a complete game on the mound from Aiden Barrett, to keep its season alive Sunday in the District 18 11-12-year-old Little League tournament after securing a walk-off extra-inning win in the tournament Saturday.

Tamaqua-Valley West
Tamaqua broke open a close game with three runs in the top of the fifth and rode Aiden Barrett’s six strong innings to a 5-1 victory over Valley West.
Valley West took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Greg B grounded out to drive in a run.
But Tamaqua responded in the fifth. Kroy Tirpak tied the game with an RBI single, and Jacob Baddick followed with a two-run double to give Tamaqua a 3-1 lead.
Tamaqua added two more runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Evan Shannon to score both Barrett and Josh Setlock.
Barrett allowed just four hits and one run over six innings. He struck out two and didn’t issue a walk in a stellar complete-game effort.
Shannon led Tamaqua at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Jackson Faust and Barrett each added two hits, and Baddick drove in two runs. Tamaqua finished with nine hits.

Valley East-Tamaqua
Tamaqua earned a dramatic 4-3 walk-off win over Valley East on Saturday.
The game was tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brayden Schultz grounded out to drive in the winning run.
Tamaqua got on the board in the bottom of the second after Schultz doubled to center field to score Evan Shannon and Jackson Perez came in to score on a wild pitch.
Jonathan H tied the game for Valley East with a home run to center in the top of the fifth.
Schultz started on the mound for Tamaqua and allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Shannon tossed two innings of scoreless relief, giving up no hits while striking out three and walking one.
Schultz also led Tamaqua at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs from the No. 7 spot in the lineup. Six different players accounted for Tamaqua’s seven hits.

N. Lehigh-Silver Creek
Paul Porobenski turned in a big-time performance at the plate and on the mound to lead Northern Lehigh to an 8-2 win over Silver Creek on Saturday.
Porobenski went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, driving in runs in the second, third and sixth innings. He doubled and scored the first run of the game in the second, singled in a run in the third, and brought home two more with a base hit in the sixth.
He also threw three shutout innings in relief, striking out three and allowing just two hits and two walks after Beckett Fox pitched the first three frames. Fox gave up one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts and three walks to earn the win.
Northern Lehigh took the lead for good with a three-run third inning that included an RBI single from Porobenski, and a pair of runs scored on a fielder’s choice by Hayden Lilly and an error.
Jayden Christman scored twice and stole three bases. Fox and Pablo Rivera each walked twice, and Rivera scored two runs and had a hit.
Northern Lehigh totaled seven walks and stole seven bases.

Jim Thorpe-LTAA
Jim Thorpe jumped out to an early lead, but a big day at the plate helped unbeaten LTAA storm back for an 18-8 win Sunday.
Jim Thorpe led 5-0 after the top of the first, but LTAA responded with nine runs in the bottom of the frame, scoring in the first three innings and posting a six-run fifth to pull away.
Bryce McElmoyle went 1-for-2 and drove in two runs for Jim Thorpe, which finished with five hits. Marshall Domski added a hit and scored a run at the plate. Zachary Fougere, Abel Roberts, Ezra Krout and McElmoyle all added singles.
Blake Dresibach paced LTAA with a 3-for-3 day that included three RBIs and two runs scored. Dane Spengler, Luke Abrachinsky and Haiden Lutseo each also had multi-hit games for the hosts, who finished with 15 total hits. LTAA stole six bases and drew nine walks.

Northern Vy.-Moore Twp.
Despite collecting more hits and jumping out to an early lead, Northern Valley dropped an 11-10 heartbreaker to Moore Township on Sunday.
Northern Valley built a 5-1 lead by the third inning, but Moore Township responded with three runs in the third and a five-run fourth to surge in front and eventually hang on for the win.
Benjamin Storch led Northern Valley at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Holden Schaffer walked three times and added an RBI. Storch also swiped two of Northern Valley’s five stolen bases.
Northern Valley opened its scoring with a four-run second inning, getting contributions from Jakob Hausman (HBP), Cameron Petrucelli and Henry Fitzgerald (walks), and an RBI fielder’s choice from Evan Miller. Giovanni Di Carlo added an RBI groundout in the third to make it 5-1.
But Moore Township’s five-run fourth flipped the game. Niko Petrides had the big blow with a three-run double as part of a five-RBI day.
Northern Valley had a strong approach at the plate, drawing 12 walks to go along with six hits.
