Chestnuthill Township

Chestnuthill Township took the following action last week:

• Authorization to advertise for sale of surplus real estate for a total of 50 unimproved lots in Sun Valley.

The lots will be sold in one group of 23, one group of 12 and one group of 15 as they are all small, irregularly shaped and not accessible by public roads.

Bidders would have to join lots together and pay dues on each individual lot.

Supervisors explained that after buying the lots, they took them off the market as buyers then complained to the township that they couldn’t get sewage on the properties.

• Lehigh Asphalt, Paving and Construction Co. was awarded the pave-in-place bid at a cost of $1,077,042. This will cover all township roads that need paving.

• A $22,727.00 grant was received covering 50% of the cost for hazardous waste at the transfer station. The Waste Authority, located at 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg, will be holding a collection event on July 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect items such as pesticides, pool treatments and oil based paints. Preregistration and prepayment is required. Go to wasteauthority.com to sign up.

• Authorization was given for attorney Marc Wolfe to advertise an ordinance for data centers, with a hearing set for Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. This is a new use under the zoning ordinance.

Wolf noted, “It’s a huge amount of power and water. At least 10 acres will be needed and there will be water testing.”

The data centers will store computer data, and AI and use a lot of power to keep things cool.
