Three TN players all-state in baseball

Matsko, Ligenza both named to First Team squad; Behler earns Second Team recognition

Palmerton’s Luke Matsko and Tamaqua’s Mason Ligenza were both named to the First Team of the 2025 Pennsylvania Scholastic Baseball Coaches Association (PSBCA) All-State team, while Lehighton’s Derek Behler earned Second Team honors.

Matsko, recognized in Class 3A, and Ligenza, honored in Class 4A, were both selected as outfielders for their standout performances throughout the 2025 season. Behler was named a Second Team outfielder in Class 4A.

The All-State teams, released Thursday, were selected through a detailed nomination and voting process by the PSBCA’s committee, which evaluated player statistics and impact across all classifications.

Ligenza had an outstanding senior season for the Blue Raiders, helping his team to a 21-2 record, a Schuylkill League title and runners-up in districts. The senior, who recently participated in the MLB Combine in Arizona and is a University of Pittsburgh commit, hit .448 (26-for-58) with four doubles and 11 home runs. He had 16 RBIs while scoring 44 runs. Ligenza walked 29 times, stole 24 bases and finished with an on-base percentage of .644, a slugging percentage of 1.086 and an OPS of 1.730.

On the mound, the left-hander pitched 55 1/3 innings and posted an ERA of 0.25, allowing just two earned runs all season. He gave up just 24 hits and 14 walks while striking out 100.

Matsko, meanwhile, had a breakout junior year for the Blue Bombers. After going hitless in nine varsity at-bats during his sophomore campaign, the outfielder led his team in hitting and helped them to a 13-6 regular-season record and berths in both the league and district playoffs.

Matsko finished with a .463 batting average, collecting 38 hits in 82 at-bats. Included among his hits were six doubles. He knocked in 16 runs, scored 18 times, stole six bases and walked five times. He posted a .500 on-base percentage and a .537 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.037.

Narrowly missing the .400 mark, Behler turned in an impressive year with the Indians. The senior compiled an average of .397, collecting 23 hits in 58 at-bats. He finished with nine extra-base hits — four doubles and five triples — and was a run-producer, scoring 20 times while totaling 25 RBIs. He added 12 walks and eight stolen bases, ending with an on-base of .507, a slugging of .638 and an OPS of 1.145.

Behler also pitched in eight games, compiling 12 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.

Additionally, the inaugural PSBCA High School All-Star Game will be held Sunday, June 22, at Medlar Field in State College. The game, featuring East and West senior all-stars, will begin at noon and will be livestreamed at awre.tv/channel/e30015.
