June 20, 1949 — Charlie Baer and Ron Pillo lead Tamaqua’s offensive charge in gaining a 14-2 Tri-County League victory over Coaldale that keeps the winners in first place. Baer collects three hits, two of them doubles, and scores a pair of runs. One of his doubles comes with the bases loaded and chases home all three runners. Pillo ends with a pair of hits and also scores twice. His eighth-inning RBI triple comes during an eight-run frame that seals the victory. Don Houser, Frank Ames, Billy Lenick and Pete Pruett all chip in with a hit and two runs. Charlie Stancavage pitches a five-hitter and strikes out 10 for Tamaqua.
