Local Roundup: Results from June 19

Franklin Township and Tamaqua both opened District 18 Little League tournament play with wins on Thursday.

Franklin pulled out a one-run decision against Hazle Township, while Tamaqua blasted Hazleton.

Tamaqua’s Schuylkill Junior Teener League squad, Hope’s Collision, also posted a playoff win, defeating Pottsville.

Northern Valley

Brady Derr went 4-for-4 and South Parkland used a seven-run fifth inning to gain an 11-4 victory over Northern Valley.

Derr had three singles and a double, scored twice and knocked in two runs.

The winners also received a pair of hits and three RBIs from Carter Delong.

For the Chargers, Max George had a hit, a run and an RBI while Jayden Christman added a hit and a run. Cole Dynda and Jacob Carson both chipped in with an RBI.

Franklin Twp.

Jake Kistner and Miles Mann combined on a one-hitter to lead Franklin Township to a narrow 3-2 victory over Hazle Township in the opening round of the District 18 11-12 Little League tournament.

Kistner went the first four frames, allowing the hit while walking two and striking out four. Mann closed out the contest, earning a save with two hitless innings and three strikeouts.

Franklin scored all its runs in the first with a two-out rally. Jakoby Andrews and Mann both walked, and Kistner singled to load the bases. Grant Hunter singled to left and all three runners scored for a 3-0 lead.

Hazle Township pulled within a run on an error and a wild pitch, but was kept off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

FT’s other hits came from Myles Meek and Mann.

Franklin Township will now face Valley East on Saturday.

Tamaqua-Hazleton

Tamaqua scored in every inning, including a 15-run fourth inning, to cruise to a 24-2 victory over Hazleton in the opening round of the District 18 11-12 Little League tournament.

Jakson Perez drilled a three-run homer during the big fourth, while five different players ended with multiple hits.

Evan Shannon collected two hits and added three runs and four RBIs, while Brady Bartczak finished with two hits, knocked in three runs and scored twice.

The winners also received two hits, two runs and two RBIs from Aiden Barrett and Brayden Schultz. Both hits by Schultz were doubles.

Jacob Baddick chipped in with a hit and three runs, and Drake Miller collected a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

Tamaqua now takes on Jim Thorpe in its next game.

Pottsville-

Hope’s Collision

Bryce Eltringham knocked in four runs as Hope’s Collision (Tamaqua) posted a 17-7 victory over Pottsville in the opening round of the playoffs.

Eltringham had a pair of hits for the winners, who scored five runs in the second inning and then blew the game open with a seven-run third.

Jaedon Vidzicki also contributed two hits — a double and a triple — scored three runs, and knocked in two. Wyatt Devlin added two hits and two runs, while Troy Hartman chipped in with a hit and a pair of runs.

Tamaqua also received a hit, a run and an RBI from Mason Evans, Gavin Shannon and John Kovatch.

Jayden Rex allowed three earned runs in five innings to earn the win.

Tamaqua now faces Williams Valley Friday in the next round.

Freeland-Tamaqua

Tamaqua opened its District 18 10-11 tournament on Wednesday with a 12-2 victory over Freeland.

Abram Graver paced the winners offensively with two hits, one a double, and three runs. He also added an RBI and earned the pitching win, allowing just two hits and two runs in four innings while striking out 11.

Bryce Bailey added a pair of hits, a run and an RBI, while Grayson Smith and Aidan Sabol both finished with a hit and two runs.

Tamaqua also received a hit and an RBI from Ellison Sommers. Nolan Runk and Mason Murphy each chipped in with a hit and a run.
