Lehighton Band kicks off summer concerts Thursday

The Lehighton Band will host the first of three free summer concerts to be held in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, the opening concert will feature a delightful evening of pop and easy listening music, blending patriotic marches, classic rock and pop hits, heartfelt solos, and a touch of fun.

Songs include:

• “Star-Spangled Banner”

• “United Nations March” by Karl King

• “Main Street Celebration” by Steven Reineke

• Music of Eric Clapton

• “Windsong” by John Moss, featuring Bob Birch on clarinet

• “We Are the Reason,” arranged by Jay Bocook

• “Liberty Fleet” by Karl King

• “Caprice for Flutes,” featuring Laura Reichard, Jennifer Mann and Vicki Malloy on flute

• “Stay” by Randall Standridge — a moving piece raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention

• “Big Band Polka” by Jerry Nowak

A special audience contest will also take place during the evening. One of the selections will cleverly weave in three popular television theme songs. Concertgoers will be invited to participate by submitting a ballot listing the three shows they recognize. One lucky winner will be drawn from the correct entries and will receive a special gift from the band.

Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be collected to help keep the music playing all summer long.

In case of rain, the concert will be held indoors at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, located at Sixth and Cypress streets.

The rest of the summer concert series will consist of July 3 — A powerful Patriotic Concert, celebrating America and honoring our military heroes; and Aug. 14 — An evening of Irish favorites, including a special side-by-side performance with the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band.
