NJ man dies after being hit by truck while pushing car in I-78

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Belfast Station is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 78.

At 10:15 p.m. Monday, troopers from PSP Belfast responded to the vicinity of I-78 Eastbound, Mile Marker 74.3, Glendon Borough, Northampton County, for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer.

Police determined that a man from New Jersey was pushing a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, which had run out of gas, in the right lane. A woman was inside, steering the vehicle.

While the vehicle was being pushed, a tractor trailer traveling eastbound struck the Chevrolet

Equinox, and another tractor trailer, which was disabled on the shoulder of the highway. The man pushing the vehicle was killed.

The woman inside the Chevrolet was transported to Saint Luke’s Anderson Hospital.

All traffic during this crash investigation was detoured onto Route 33.

All lanes of I-78 Eastbound were reopened at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday.

This crash remains under investigation by PSP Belfast Patrol Unit with the assistance of the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.
