Coaldale will deck its streets with more lighted holiday decorations, thanks to a donation from Summit Hill.
President Claire Remington announced the early Christmas gift at Tuesday’s Coaldale Borough Council meeting.
“This was supposed to be a little surprise but somebody let the cat out of the bag,” Remington said.
She noted that Summit Hill officials contacted the borough to offer a donation of 12 star decorations.
“The lights are in better condition than ours are,” Remington said.
The decorations are compatible with brackets Coaldale uses for its holiday lights.
“That will bring a little bit more beauty to the town. We’re trying to spruce up here,” Remington noted.
Summit Hill will be getting new Christmas holiday lights, and during its May meeting, council President David Wargo suggested donating the old ones to Coaldale.
“They were passed onto us some time ago,” Wargo had said of the lights, “so maybe we could consider giving all the lights to Coaldale if they’re interested.”
Summit Hill had also discussed whether to sell the lights, which were purchased without borough funds. The lights were procured through a fundraising effort headed by Summit Hill councilwoman Marlene Basiago.
