Tamaqua youth soccer program has new home at Morgan Park

The Tamaqua Area Youth Soccer Association has a new home.

On Monday, West Penn Township supervisors approved a 10-year lease for the association to use Morgan Park.

“They’re looking to make Morgan Park their new home,” Supervisor Jim Akins said.

The association had called the fields near the Tamaqua Elementary School its headquarters, but the teams frequently have matches at the Cold Spring Road park.

Akins’ motion to approve the lease was seconded by Chairman Tony Prudenti. Supervisor Glenn Hummel was absent.

Supervisors also allowed the association to change its mailing address to reflect Morgan Park.

A mailbox was recently installed.

The association offers spring soccer programs, summer soccer camps and fall soccer programs for children ages 4 to 15 years.

It sees more than 400 youths each year from Tamaqua and surrounding communities including West Penn, Coaldale, Lansford, Summit Hill, McAdoo, Barnesville, New Ringgold, Weatherly and Hazleton, according to the association’s website.
