Fundraiser benefits Aquashicola woman
A fundraiser will be held for an AquashIcola woman who had her leg amputated.
The Turkey BBQ Dinner fundraiser for Moriah Coles will be held June 13 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 500 Church Dr., Palmerton (Trachsville).
The meal is a turkey BBQ, filling, sides, and a drink. Dine in is at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Take out is available that day from 4 to 6 p.m.
Purchase tickets by Sunday by calling 610-381-3038, 610-381-2686, or the church office at 610-681-5200.
Funds raised from the event will go toward getting a handicapped bathroom installed in Coles’ home, said her aunt, Connie Smale.
Smale explained that Coles has had several medical problems over the last few years, including a bad case of COVID that resulted in her being on oxygen for the rest of her life.
She said doctors recommended that Coles have her appendix taken out, but two weeks later, she developed a blood clot that clogged the main artery in her leg which resulted in her having to have it amputated.
“Surprisingly, she is always upbeat, never feeling sorry for herself; she continued to work until recently,” Smale said. ”It’s impossible for her to get in and out of her bathroom because her bathroom is so small.”
Smale said Coles has a prosthesis, but it creates sores so she can’t wear it.
“We’re trying to get a bathroom for her so that she can get in there and get a proper shower,” she said. “We’re trying to raise money so that they can revamp the bathroom into a handicapped bathroom for her.”
Smale said Coles is having an infusion this coming week.
