Weatherly names Ritchie as mayor/president

Weatherly Borough Council selected a new mayor/council president during a special meeting of the vacancy board Tuesday night.

Council, along with former councilman Harold Farrow, who rounds out the vacancy board, selected Councilman Norman Richie, who initially declined the position last week.

Council then reorganized with Councilman Jeffery Miller selected as vice president of council, a post previously held by Richie.

The borough was left without a mayor/council president, which is an elected, dual role under Weatherly’s form of government, after the resignation of Paul J. Hadzick following an investigation into sexual harassment claims in April.

Council had 30 days to fill the role before the selection went to the vacancy board, which convened Tuesday.

Council now has another vacancy and will need to fill Richie’s position on council. The borough has received letters of interest, and will be accepting additional letters of interest this month.

Council is expected to fill the slot at its June meeting.

Richie will serve as mayor/council president through end of the year, as will any replacement for his position on council.

After the brief vacancy board session, council went into executive session and adjourned with no additional business.
