One person died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 9:36 p.m. Thursday on Route 22 in Hanover Township.
State police at the Bethlehem barracks said a passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.
They did not provide the name of the deceased, nor the names of the drivers.
They said the accident happened at mile marker 326.1 when a 2013 Mercedes-Benz was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and the driver attempted to overtake a 2015 Ford Escape when the Mercedes sideswiped the Escape, after which time the driver lost control. Police said the Mercedes veered off the roadway, striking a tree before coming to rest.
Police said the driver of the Mercedes was transported by personnel from the Northampton Regional EMS unit to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem.
Multiple fire departments and EMS units responded to the scene to assist police.
Route 22 was closed Friday morning while police conducted crash reconstruction.
