Senior Center

The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu for June 2-6.

Monday: Vegetable Soup, Cheesesteak, Sweet Potatoes, Peaches or Turkey and Cheese Sandwich.

Tuesday: Sesame Chicken, Rice Blend, Green Beans, Jell-O or Tuna Salad.

Wednesday: Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, Cookie or Salad with Chicken.

Thursday: Meatball in Onion Sauce, Diced Potatoes, Italian Vegetables, Fruit Salad or Chicken Salad Sandwich.

Friday: Manicotti, Broccoli, Salad, Pound Cake or Chicken and Cheese Sandwich.

The center has also announced the following upcoming events:

Memorial Day Picnic and Cakewalk on May 30; Yahtzee on June 2 at 11 a.m.; Bingo on June 3 at 10:45 a.m.; Game Day on June 4 at 10:30 a.m.; Po-Keeno on June 5 at 11 a.m.; Balloon Tennis on June 6 at 11 a.m.

Cards, pool, games available daily from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. New members are welcome.

Nesquehoning

Historical Society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society is hosting a full-day railroad excursion to Pottsville at 9 a.m. June 26.

The Reading and Northern train leaves the Nesquehoning station and travels to Pottsville, where passengers can then tour the Yuengling Brewery, the Yuengling Mansion, Jerry’s Car Museum and more.

Panther Valley library

The Panther Valley Public Library will hold its summer reading program for children ages 3-5 and 6-to 9 beginning June 11.

This year’s program theme is “Color Our World.” It includes crafts, snacks and reading.

The program for children ages 3-5 is held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 18, 25 and July 9.

The program for children ages 6-9 is held from 10-11 a.m. Fridays, June 13, 20, 27 and July 11.

Registration is required for the free event. To register a child, call the library at 570-645-3780 with your child’s name and age; or email pvplib@ptd.net.

The library is located at 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, and is open Mondays and Wednesdays 9 a.m.-noon; Thursdays from 5-7 p.m.; and Fridays from 9 a.m.-noon.
