Kidder Township hears about open space funding
Anna Shigo, coordinator of the Carbon County Open Space program, spoke at Kidder Township’s board of supervisors meeting.
Shigo explained that there is a “new grant to preserve woods, waterfalls and animal habitat in the county.
There is a $10 million bond, and the county grant program will be utilized. This is the first time an amount of money that large is available, Shigo said.
A grant from The Wildlife Conservancy will also help with the project. Regional municipal meeting workshops are planned for the summer.
In other business, the Blue Ridge Real Estate Company Lake Shore Development was granted an extension until June 26. Cypress Creek Renewables received a one-year extension of the conditional use permit for their solar farm as they have had difficulty obtaining state permits.
A request was approved to add to the agenda for solicitor Robert Yurchak to look at amending the stormwater ordinance. Yurchak noted that there are issues with the formula being used and there are no specifications if it is a commercial property.
Old business included approval of installing traffic emitters at the intersection with the turnpike, Interstate 80 and Roite 940 with the Moseywood Road/Jack Frost intersections.
Supervisors approved the replacement of the engine in the new police code enforcement vehicle, at a cost of $7,500. The engine will have a three- year, 100,000 mile warranty.
Supervisor Noel Torres said, “I meet with the police chief regularly. Officers are doing a fantastic job with arrests, enforcement and visibility.” There has been an increase in drug and DUI arrests. The department was awarded a $35,000 LSA grant for a vehicle and mobile warning sign to curtail speeding.
The roadmaster report noted that the timing of the traffic light at Route 940/Interstate 80/turnpike has been adjusted so no one will wait more than one light cycle.
Township Manager Suzanne Brooks said an app called “Kidder Konnect” will allow residents to get notifications via text or email about everything from snow alerts to seeing what events are going on in the township.
