Wildlife day camps in Schuylkill
What’s that bug? Look at that bird! What is it? Those are some of the questions posed or comments made by campers in the wildlife day camps provided by the Schuylkill Conservation District in concert with sponsoring organizations.
“Our camps provide fun learning by doing and discovery nature experiences,” said Patrick “Porcupine Pat” McKinney of the conservation district and host of all camps. “We are fortunate to provide camps for a donation in whatever you would like to provide with thanks to the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation.”
The first camp is one day only and will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church Grove in Erdman on June 19 for children ages 4 to 10. Cosponsored by the Zion Lutheran, the camp is open from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The next two camps will be held in the Clubhouse Pavilion at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park near Pine Grove. Both camps are slated for June 23 to 25. The first will be for 4- to 6-year-olds and held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The second camp, for 7- to 9-year-olds, runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Another summer camp will be held at Valley View Park for students leaving grades 1 to 4. The camp runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on July 21 to 23.
A camp will be offered on The Island in Schuylkill Haven from Aug. 4 to 6. Hours are 9:30 to 11 a.m. On the same dates, there is another camp at Albright’s Woods in Orwigsburg. Its hours are 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The conservation district is collaborating with the Schuylkill Haven Recreation Department and the Blue Mountain Recreation Commission to present the last two camps.
